Part 4: Chapter 3 – Blue Thread – The Promise of Heaven

Welcome to Part 4’s Chapter 3 of Arise and Shine. Today, Bettie is introducing us to the free will offering of blue thread and she invites you to join her and Anna in prayer. As the LORD leads, Anna and Bettie will also be adding daily free will offerings of blue thread to the bottom of this post.

Take a sacred offering for the Lord. Let those with generous hearts present the following gifts to the Lord: blue, purple, and scarlet thread;  Exodus 35:5-6

“He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all. John 3:31

Do you have a favorite color? Most anyone who knows me would be able to name me as one who is drawn to blue.  Whether it’s the early spring of pastel skyblue or the dark night of sparkling indigo for the Christmas Night Gathering, I will usually find a way to bring blue into my surroundings. And if the spring weather is favorable, I will eagerly watch for my favorite sight of blue fluttering in the wind: the Indigo Bunting, a shy little bird.

But is there something deeper connected with these color associations?  If we look back at the gathering of materials used for the tabernacle construction, we would have to say a resounding, “yes!”  God was very specific with the instructions for the building of the tabernacle and its supplies.

And, there it appears: blue or indigo, again and again. Look at the directions scattered throughout Exodus chapters 25 through 39, and you will find specific uses of that blue in the tabernacle, its accoutrements and even in the priestly garments.  Early Hebrew people knew that the word “indigo” was derived from the word for a shellfish that made a deep blue dye.

But the meaning they were to gain when they saw all of that blue? Their eyes were to look up, towards Heaven, and the commands of their Lord that set them apart as Holy unto Him. After they settled in the land God gave them, He brought the color blue into an everyday reminder, so that they would not forget WHOSE they and their loved ones were:

“The Lord also spoke to Moses, saying, ‘Speak to the sons of Israel, and tell them that they shall make for themselves tassels on the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and that they shall put on the tassel of each corner a cord of blue. It shall be a tassel for you to look at and remember all the commandments of the Lord, so as to do them and not follow after yourown heart and your own eyes, after which you played the harlot,  so that you may remember to do all My commandments and be holy to your God.  I am the Lord your God who brought you out from the land of Egypt to be your God; I am the Lord your God.’” Numbers 15:37-41

When the lies of the enemy flood our minds, when rescue seems far away for us or our loved ones, there is a way to look for HOPE, and it is as close as the sky above you. LOOK UP! There lies the truth: The Lord our God has freedom in mind, even for us.

Dear Heart aching in the storm
Lift up your eyes
The grey will soon part
And rescue will fall
As Indigo from the sky.

The Ancient Priests knew the sight
Their garments awash
The curtains the walls
All touched and woven
As Indigo from the sky.

The Hebrew children settled in
Their lands and their towns
But daily remembered
Tassles lifting their gaze
As Indigo from the sky.

The Shepherds on that Holy Night
With their sheep standing near
Saw the darkness fall in
Heard the Angels bright song
As Indigo from the sky.

The bowed down woman pressed in
To reach for HIS robe
The only One ableTo reach through her pain
As Indigo from the sky.

And I in this season of dark
Wait for the flash
Of a bird so brilliant
It sparkles like sapphire
As Indigo from the sky.

But my heart is still longing
In a pain of my own
For a flash of dear Hope
From Heaven so pure
As Indigo from the sky.

Dear Heart aching in the storm
Lift up your eyes
The grey will soon part
And rescue will fall
As Indigo from the sky.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you that Your ways are higher than the skies that are above us.  We stand in awe of the creation that we can see here before us.  If all of this is so beautiful, how much more amazing will Heaven be?

Thank You that You have opened Heaven before us, by inviting us to partake of the Eternal Life that Your Son has won for us.

May we lift our eyes to the sky, longing to be with You in Your Heavenly Home. May we be those who with great expectation watch for You to move in power in our own lives and in the lives of those You call us to pray for. May we be those who listen for and heed Your call to lift up Your Word. May we be those who confirm and support each other in Your Word, declaring Your faithfulness from generation to generation.

In the Name of Jesus we pray. Amen
