Thank You for Growing Us Up in Self-control

Would you like to join me in my prayer today? I invite you to join me in thanking God for growing us up in self-control.

Papa, thank You for growing us up in self-control in our knowledge. Thank You for teaching us daily and compelling us moment by moment to wait upon You and listen for Your Word and Your timing, for what You desire us to share and what not (yet).

Thank You for Your grace that has already covered all our past failings, all the times we have not been self-controlled in our knowledge and have wounded others and ourselves in the knowledge we have shared, in seeking to be understood, rather than to understand those You have set before us.

Forgive us for all harm we have ever done and heal us and those we have wounded in our sin. We open our hands to receive Your forgiveness of us now. Help us now in response to forgive others who have wounded us also. Thank You for Your restoration and redemption. We open our hands to receive that now too, in Your timing and Your gentle and kind Way for each of us.

Thank You for continuing to teach us how to humble ourselves beneath Your mighty hand and to become more and more self-controlled in our knowledge, as we learn to discern and obey Your Voice from the voice of our accuser. Thank You that because we are Your sheep we do hear Your Voice and follow Your Voice and not a stranger’s. Thank You that we are growing up, more and more, in You and are coming to better know and trust Your loving Voice to us.

Thank You for Your gentle patience and firm boundaries to protect us, as You grow us up in our knowledge and in submitting to Your will in that knowledge. Thank You for revealing Your empowering grace in us, to us and through us, more and more. Thank You for teaching us to resist our accuser and to silence the voices of striving inside of us with Your beautiful Words of rest that You are continually speak in us and singing over us. Thank You for awakening in us the desire to lean into, linger and wait with You for the fullness of Your knowledge to unfold in us, before seeking to encourage others around us.

Thank You for slowing us down to envision and imagine and dream with You, to take Your hand and walk into the unforced rhythm of Your grace for us. Thank You that You are showing us and teaching us how to act, how to write and how to speak in full freedom, to not hide Your grace, but to arise wholly and fully in Your pride in our changes of mind. Thank You for transforming our minds to think upon You and our bodies and souls to rest in You.

Papa, thank You for opening our ears to hear Your heartbeat, our eyes to see Your face and our hands to take ahold of Your grace for us. Thank You that wherever we go, You are with us, teaching us and growing us up in Your love, to speak, write and live out Your love to others.

Thank You for revealing Your true and pure heart of boldness, withness and compassion in us and through us each more and more. Thank You for teaching us to dance with You, in step to Your Holy Spirit, for teaching us to surrender to Your leading and to worship You wholeheartedly in full abandon, trusting in You and Your perfect and sovereign will.

Thank You for reminding us that we are safe and secure in Your loving and strong arms. Thank You for reminding us that You care about our every thought. Thank You for slowing us down to teach us how to cast each burdensome thought at Your feet that You might reflect back to us Your pure and unadultered love. Thank You for keeping us within the pleasant boundaries of Your easy yoke, lifting away what is not ours to carry to empower us to carry fully what is ours, together, in union with You.

Thank You for reminding us and empowering us daily to see and celebrate the fruit of Your pruning hand upon us. Thank You for stripping away our ability and desire to trespass upon Your holy ground for others and their ability to trespass upon Your holy ground for us.

Thank You for restoring Your true and pure desire in us to be who You have truly created us to be: not a victim but an overcomer in Jesus’ Name. I say Amen to Bettie’s prayer for me: yes, bless ALL of my words. But You also say where two or more are gathered, there You are too: so I ask You to bless ALL the words of those who gather here with me in Your Name also.

Free our tongues in boldness to declare the Good News You have imparted to us and to denounce the accusations of our enemy, the accuser of the brethren. Be our boldness as a lion, our cunning wisdom as serpents and our purity and innocence as doves. Lift us up to You to see ourselves and our loved ones seated with You in the heavenly places. Remind us to put on the new man that was created according to You in true righteousness and holiness.

Thank You for daily and moment by moment renewing in us a right Spirit. Thank You for restoring unto us the joy of our salvation and the unforced rhythm of Your grace, Your easy yoke and light burden for us. Thank You for giving us a new boldness of heart and unashamed ability to speak and live out the Word You give us, untainted and unmixed with fleshly desires. Thank You for lifting away the cover hiding the lamp You’ve placed within us to shine so brightly.

Thank You for helping us to continually come away with You, to lean into and linger with Your Word to us. Thank You for ever leading us into changes of mind (repentance), by the power of Your living and active Word in us, in Your sweet sweet kindness to us. Thank You for empowering us to shed the sin entangling us that is hiding the clarity and bright beauty of Your living Word.

Thank You for continuing to shower us in Your warm embrace of kindness that we may, as a whole Body, united in mind and Spirit, silence the enemy of our brethren. Thank You for continuing to open our eyes that we may stop turning to works of self-sabotage. Thank You for compelling us to arise and shine in Your good thoughts of us and of others.

Thank You for moving us in the power of Your Spirit to do the good works You have prepared for us to do, in the abundant grace You are even now pouring out into our hearts and into our midst. Thank You for drying up the brooks of our selfishness, prideful striving and fleshly fears and doubt.

Thank You for chasing us home with Your goodness and mercy. Thank You for leading us toward the bubbling brook and fountains of Your truth and grace flowing inside of us. Thank You for pouring out the Holy Spirit upon us all afresh, as we wait upon You, even here.

Thank You for empowering us to join You in the work You have called us to do and have prepared us to do, unafraid and unashamed of the Gospel of Your Kingdom. Thank You that You are even now, restoring and redeeming our pure desires in You. Thank You that You are even now singing and rejoicing over us, as our eyes open to see You for who You truly are: slow to anger, full of compassion and so very rich in mercy toward us all.

Oh thank You for restoring our hearts in Your fatherly pride. Thank You for restoring Your eyesight to us as we look and behold Your masterpiece unfolding in us and through us, as You continually turn our face toward Your own, place Your hand of blessing upon our heads and pour out Your anointing upon us.

Thank You for continually hemming us in, in Your embrace, to lead us back out into the spacious places of Your grace. Thank You for daily and moment by moment enlarging our hearts to run in the path of Your commands with great joy and ever expanding expectations.

Thank You that we are headed to the new heavens and the new earth, our true home, where all is fully and wholly restored, where You will show us all the tears You have collected in Your bottle and the harvest You have reaped in and through each tear.

  1. Amen. Thank you for this beautiful confirmation of His Word. This paragraph fits so well with my morning Scripture (For we are God’s workmansip, created in Christ Jesus for His good works … )
