31 DAYS OF HEALING LEAVES: Awaking Us All to the Glory of God in our Midst. Day 1: We’re Home

When I noted the date of my returning from a Sabbath resting on this blog as 23 November 2022, I did so because God gave me very specific instructions. He asked me to write 31 days of poems reflecting His work of repentance in me, in us, as His Body.

Little did I know how powerfully He would move, as He poured the words into and out of my heart and mouth. How my heart would break, how many tears I would shed in overwhelming sorrow for all the ways I had ever broken my Savior’s heart and Body, in cursing my very own heart and body and the hearts and bodies of my very own brothers and sisters in Christ.

But oh how precious is His compassion for us, His Body. How He met me in His fountains of grace washing over me and overflowing into and out of my inner most being, the Spirit of truth and grace declaring me and each one of us: His blessed children.

Little did I know how His Spirit would unleash such favor, gifting me Words not yet inscribed upon my own heart, now becoming my own, in Christ’s sacrifice for me, for us all. He wrote them upon my heart through the flames and shaking of each testing He sent my way not to hurt me, but to prove me, to prove us all: His Beloved.

So, 12 days early, by His overwhelming grace, here is our Savior’s first day’s offering to us all from His gift to me, His humble servant, for us all. Day 1 of 31 DAYS OF HEALING LEAVES: Awaking Us All to the Glory of God in our Midst. God bless you!

Day 1: We’re Home

In honor of Håkan, the husband of my dear friend Lisa Enqvist, and his beloved family, who surrendered him into Jesus’ hands as I penned this poem, as the Holy Spirit prompted me to pray for Lisa and her family, as they gathered at his side, as Jesus came to take him home.

Psalms 16:6-11 (MSG)
You set me up with a house and yard. And then you made me your heir!
The wise counsel God gives when I'm awake is confirmed by my sleeping heart.
Day and night I'll stick with God; I've got a good thing going and I'm not letting go.
I'm happy from the inside out, and from the outside in, I'm firmly formed.
You canceled my ticket to hell - that's not my destination!
Now you've got my feet on the life path, all radiant from the shining of your face. Ever since you took my hand, I'm on the right way.

We're Home

What if
What's dying
Is most beautiful
To You

The leaves
Of each page
Rain healing
Hearts open

Warming us
To breathe
Again in
One accord

In heaven's
Glory unfolding
All around
Us calling

To taste
And see
Your mercy
In the bounty

A harvest in
Each leaf
Shedding in
Knees bowed low

In hands held
Together
A world apart
In Spirit One

Face to face
We see You here
In the veil lifted
Children glowing

With heaven's sheen
In wonder and awe
We look up to
You: our God alone

You're here with us
In our midst ever still
Never bereft or alone
We are Yours always

And forever undivided
But for a short moment
On this earth wandering
Upward and onward:

"Well done, good and
Faithful servant" You cry
As heaven's gates
Open wide: we're home!
