Chapter 2: Day 7 – Gates of Praise

Welcome to Day 7 of Chapter 2 from Arise and Shine. Today, Anna is sharing a poem filled with Scriptures and the Scriptures that inspired it.

Gates of Praise

I am your light and your salvation
I am your glory within
Call your walls: salvation
Your gates: praise.

I am your glory within
Swing wide you heavenly gates
Your gates: praise
Let the King of Glory come in.

Swing wide you heavenly gates
Return to your fortress, prisoners of hope
Let the King of Glory come in
Light shines in darkness.

Return to your fortress, prisoners of hope
I am a wall of fire around you
Light shines in darkness
I am the Lifter of your head.

I am a wall of fire around you
Call your walls: salvation
I am the lifter of your head
I am your light and your salvation.

Psalm 24: 9 (ESV)

Lift up your heads, O gates! And lift them up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.

1 Chronicles 16:28 (ESV)

Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength!

Psalm 22:3 (ESV)

Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel.

Isaiah 60:18 (ESV)

Violence shall no more be heard in your land, devastation or destruction within your borders; you shall call your walls Salvation, and your gates Praise.

Zechariah 9:12 (ESV)

Return to your fortress, you prisoners of hope; even now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you.

Isaiah 62:1 (ESV)

For Zion's sake I will not keep silent,

and for Jerusalem's sake I will not be quiet,

until her righteousness goes forth as brightness,

and her salvation as a burning torch.

John 1:14 (ESV)

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

2 Corinthians 4:6-7 (MSG)

6 It started when God said, "Light up the darkness!" and our lives filled up with light as we saw and understood God in the face of Christ, all bright and beautiful. 7 If you only look at us, you might well miss the brightness. We carry this precious Message around in the unadorned clay pots of our ordinary lives. That's to prevent anyone from confusing God's incomparable power with us.

Sunshine Pouring

Thick black clouds
Are gath’ring
Even so, I feel my feet
Treading here
Ever closer, ever brighter.

Hand in hand I’m running
His eyes are opening mine
Sunshine pouring
Light there pressing
Dark clouds away.

“Be not afraid,”
I hear His Voice
“I go before you
A light unto your path
A lamp unto your feet.

“What they may say
What you may hear
What you may feel
Be still and know:
Beloved, You are Mine.

“Go where I send you
Speak what I give you
Still where I ask you
I am Your Light
Awakening freedom.

“Watch the darkness fleeing
Watch my children coming
Knees are bowing
My Name
They’re calling.”

Thick black clouds
Are gath’ring
Even so, I feel my feet
Treading here
Ever closer, ever brighter.

Hand in hand I’m running
His eyes are opening mine
Sunshine pouring
Light there pressing
Darkness full away.

Sometimes to follow Jesus means being sent back to a place where we once knew desolation and indescribable pain [. . . ]

What Jesus wants us to know is that his salvation and his protection extend to those old, horrible haunts. If he can break the death-grip Satan once had on us and set us free, then he can redeem the places of our former slavery and make them showcases of God’s omnipotent grace.

Do not be afraid. The Good Shepherd will walk with you and protect you on the darkest road (Psalm 23:4). Declare how much God has done for you. You are being sent because there are other tomb-people to free.

Shine Your Light

Do you hear
The voices speak of you
As too broken
And frail?

Too foolish
And shameful
My holy Word
To wield?

Cut down
Each step you take
As in My purposed Way
You walk.

Now still
My child
Feel My heart
Burn within.

Your blessed
Childlike soul
Your inmost being
Praises still.

Fearfully
And wonderfully
From the womb
Overshadowed.

My Word
In Spirit breath
Is flaming
You alive.

For, the foolish
Of this world
I have chosen
To shame the wise.

The weak
Of this world
I have chosen
To confound the strong.

Do not dim Your lamp
But shine it brightly
For all to glorify
My work in you.

I've created you
To unleash
My glory
And praise.

Trust Me
Child
You're spoken for
You're Mine.

I am your light
Your shield
Your glory and
The lifter of your head.

For, I am
Your portion
Your Rock
And Redeemer.

Arise and shine
You're sent
To shine your light
And break the night!

Trembling Awe

Oh my heart
So worn, so torn
Emptied of all
No more to give.

Kneeling here
At these Your feet
What do I have
To offer You, my Lord.

"My child" I hear
Your gentle Voice
"Here at My feet
You have given all.

"An offering
Of poverty
But more
Than ever before.

"Shed here your clothes
Of old
Let me clothe you
In all newness of Life

"A living Hope
An inheritance
Imperishable
I am your crown.

"Behold, the new has come
Shed here the old
Arise in Me
Truth kissing grace.

"Stand in the light
Of My morning sun
Shining ever brighter
Till the full light of day.

"I have not left you orphaned
My Living Word
A lamp unto your feet
And a light unto your path.

"Behold
Do you not perceive it?
My way in the wilderness?
My rivers in the desert?

"For, my righteousness
Within I have forged
My burning fire all dross
In jealous love consuming.

"Refining
To silver
Testing
Unto gold.

"In My streams of life
Your trembling heart
Shall now rest
In my love One.

"My vine
Not in one, but each
And every season
Harvests.

"The rivers from my throne
Now streaming freely in you
Shall wash all devouring
And destroying tongues away.

"Here in my presence abiding
Your delight shall grow
In My delight
Abounding.

"My Spirit now revealing
A flood of beauty
All desires buried deep
Now powerfully unveiling.

"Promises true and pure
You shall speak
No longer in fear of man
But in trembling awe of Me.

"My Word in you
Not empty
But accomplished
Returning."

"In fruit for food
And leaves for healing
In My love abiding
And My life abounding."

Jeremiah 31:3
The LORD appeared to me from ages past saying, “I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn you and continued My faithfulness to you.

Psalm 16:2
. . . every good thing I have comes from you.

2 Peter 1:3
By His divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.
